Briana and Devin took more than a year planning the perfect mid-sized wedding. They were excited to use the Caney House in Van Vleck and to share that venue with their many friends. Everything seemed totally on-track; we shot bridal portraits and made big plans for the coming event.
Enter Covid19. The new safety restrictions came chopping in like a big pair of scissors, and all at once, the guest list was trimmed way down. But, in matters of love, as in theatre, the show must go on. So the couple opted for an intimate event: only immediate family (plus yours truly), followed by a small lunch at Briana’s parents’ house. Despite overcast and sometimes ominous-looking skies, the bride’s mood was calm on the big day. I was able to shoot a first-look with Dad, and a “non” first-look with Husband-to-Be. Before publicly reciting vows, the couple held hands around the corner of a honeysuckle arch, and read private, heartfelt notes to one another. Now on the “same page,” they were really ready to head down the aisle.
Even with the downsizing, a couple of siblings and adorable nieces rounded out the wedding party. Others dressed up via FaceTime for the occasion. Briana’s aunt officiated. The quiet, emotional ceremony had the feel of a beautiful well-planned elopement. Without the fast-pace of a bigger, more elaborate event, I had all the time I needed to focus on the sweetness of each detail, perfecting family shots and couples’ portraits. Oh, and it never did rain!
