The Perfectly-Priced Session

The Price Family have had many significant events lately. Carlos and Linda celebrated 50 years of marriage in April. Then, in June, Linda joined Carlos as a fellow septuagenarian. And their only child, AJ, (now on board as Administrative Assistant with Megan Blasdel Photography) suddenly realized that their last family portraits were done way back around 1990!

Since a global pandemic put the kibosh on international travel, Carlos and Linda did not make it to their planned Viking River Cruise in Europe. Likewise, their annual RV trip to the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX, was also cancelled. Life, like marriage, is full of ups and downs. So, they made the best of it by having portraits at another dreamy vacation spot — Galveston’s East Beach. They also posed at the nearby Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe, where many of their favorite folk singers have played while on tour. Like a long-distance friendship, sometimes fans travel to see the musicians, and sometimes the musicians come to the fans.

Carlos is thriving in retirement. His lifetime vocation was in the field of education, serving for decades as a Superintendent, then Assistant Superintendent, and finally as a Professor in the Doctoral Program at UHCL where he successfully passed the torch to a new generation of school administrators.

Along with golf, gardening, and dabbling in watercolor and ukulele, he loves a long walk on the beach. That habit made him a perfect volunteer for Turtle Patrol. This cool program engages citizens to help identify and report turtle tracks and nests. The efforts empower us to preserve our local species, the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, which remains the most endangered sea turtle in the world. This turtle-print shirt was a Christmas gift from Linda, and is one of his favorites.

Linda is also a retired educator. Her passion for books made her a natural reading teacher; she specialized in helping kids with dyslexia. Many of her former La Marque ISD students still greet her with big smiles whenever they see her out in public.

Helping others to become their best selves motivated Linda, along with Carlos and a couple of their friends, to take over the women-only Curves gym when its former owner retired. They kept it going for another four years. Now with more time to herself, Linda enjoys book club, garden club, entertaining, water aerobics, and bird-watching on walks along the John O’Quinn Estuary near their home.

AJ, of AJ Price Design, is an artist, writer, and public speaker. Interested in almost everything under the sun, AJ says that curiosity is the key to creativity. Also passionate about social justice and environmental causes, another personal motto is the famous line penned by Aesop in the sixth century BCE: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

For their portrait session, and subsequent ordering appointment, the Price family loved the a la carte option on my pricing guide. It’s your hour, so use it how you like! AJ took the opportunity to get a few poses alone to use in digital form as professional headshots. Since there is one family but two houses, they wanted wall art for each residence. And, especially important in hurricane season, they also chose a small album that would be easy to grab in an evacuation. Let’s hope it can stay on display at home for years to come, though!
