Grit and Grace: Galveston Ballerina Senior Session

Knowing my niece Jennah’s flair for the dramatic, her brilliant talent as a dancer, and her edgy side, I set about dreaming of and planning for this session early on in her senior year. She needed something incredible and artistic, something we've never seen before - and I knew exactly what it was.

This specific set was an original concept that we nurtured to fruition with careful sequencing and a crazy amount of excitement. I imagined so many of the finished images before we ever even took the first frame. When you look through her gallery, you'll notice the juxtaposition of gritty locations with the softness and elegance of a dancer's costume. You'll see the lines of the buildings and the lines of her body in her poses. You'll notice a color scheme that carries through from start to finish, and a myriad of expressions that reflect her perfectly.

This session was truly a collaboration between two creatives and the resulting art was stunning. Sometimes I think with the abundance of photographers out there today, as well as the sheer amount of images we see on social media everyday, that we run the risk of people viewing photography as less of an art form and more of a commodity. But the reality is, photography is a fine art. When done right, photographers follow all the rules of traditional artistry (color theory, composition, correct lighting, leading lines), as well as all of the technical aspects of the camera itself and the human aspects of capturing emotion.

My fine art education and my passion for creating lasting work is a reason why I offer a full service experience. It's simply a part of who I am as an artist. Imagine if a painter left his canvas loose, never to be stretched, framed, or displayed. How sad!

Since my niche is photography, I happen to display my work via products that resonate with my clients. A gorgeous canvas or a luxurious album are my personal favorites for long-term enjoyment. You simply can't do that with a digital file, and I wouldn't want that for you anyway.

If creating made-for-you artwork on custom products from boutique family-owned labs sounds exciting, then I would love to chat with you about your vision. After all, this isn't just another photo session- this is a full service experience meant to stand the test of time.
